2 arrested after shoplifting and high-speed chase

Officers in East Texas recently responded to a report of an alleged theft at a local store. As they responded, the call to investigate an apparent shoplifting led to a car chase and crash that took them into another state. Police reports show that the incident took place on Friday, June 2.

A report that two women had allegedly shoplifted at a Wal-Mart was received by the Marshall Police Department. According to the department's Public Information Officer, the stolen items included a baby stroller, baby supplies and other merchandise. A description of the car that had apparently been loaded with the items had been provided to the police.

After leaving the Wal-Mart, the two woman purportedly stopped to eat. When the Marshall Police saw a car that matched the description provided, they claimed that they tried to make a traffic stop. However, according to the officers, the car sped away. The officers from the Marshall Police Department, along with those from the Texas Department of Public Safety, apparently pursued the women. Reportedly, the speed of the vehicle was from 90 to 100 miles per hour.

The chase evidently ended in Louisiana when the vehicle crashed into a tree and gas meter after hitting railroad tracks. A 29-year-old woman and a 24-year-old woman were hospitalized with injuries following the crash. The women face charges of theft and evading arrest after being released from the hospital.

Being charged with shoplifting and evading arrest should not be taken lightly. Those facing similar charges often seek the guidance of a Texas criminal defense lawyer. An experienced attorney will help clients examine all the evidence involved and mount a rigorous defense. A knowledgeable lawyer will work toward the goal of minimizing the negative impact on a client's life.
