Driving a vehicle while intoxicated is never a wise decision. Impaired or dulled senses often lead to car accidents. While some accidents are minor, with vehicles sustaining little damage, others end in devastation. A recent crash in Texas claimed the life of one young man, and another man faces serious charges for his role in the death.
Police report that a 43-year-old man was driving west on at a high rate of speed. He had his 10-year-old son in the car with him. A crossover SUV was traveling eastbound and was at an intersection preparing to make a left turn onto another road. The car hit the passenger side of the SUV as it came into the intersection.
The SUV was sent into the air as a result of the collision. When it came down, it landed on its roof. The driver of the SUV suffered a dislocated shoulder and several cuts. He was transported to a local hospital. The passenger, an 18-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene from a massive head injury.
The car spun after the impact and was found against a nearby fence. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries. His son was treated at the hospital for a broken arm and potential internal injuries. Witnesses report that the driver appeared to be intoxicated when he left his vehicle. Police officials indicate the man will face charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.
Losing loved ones in car accidents caused by drunk driving is a tragedy and nothing can ever replace that loss. Surviving family members often realize that they are left with significant financial burdens, such as funeral expenses. A Texas attorney familiar with personal injury law can assist families in pursuing wrongful death litigation to help defray monetary obligations. A dedicated legal team is key in obtaining a successful outcome in a wrongful death claim.
