Traffic accidents occur every day in Texas. Understandably, car accidents are serious and often result in broken bones, head injuries or even a fatalities. When a loved one is injured or killed as the result of such a collision, it is often an overwhelming experience for the victim and/or the victim's loved ones.
A car accident occurred recently that took the life of a 17-year-old. It occurred on December 18 in Austin. The 20-year-old driver of the car in which the victim was a passenger is now facing criminal charges in relation to the fatal accident.
The driver was headed eastbound on a state highway when, at around 3:40 a.m., his vehicle went off the roadway and struck a tree, accord to Austin police. The driver and another passenger ran away from the scene. The other passenger died at the scene. Police said that the driver later returned. Investigators are currently awaiting the results of toxicology results in order to determine whether intoxication was a contributing factor in the tragic crash.
After fatal car accidents, it is normal for a victim's loved ones to have questions about what happened and what may happen next. An experienced Texas personal injury attorney can answer most of these questions and help a client to understand the options available to them. If a wrongful death claim is pursued, the lawyer will focus on preparing the strongest case possible while helping the client navigate the often challenging civil justice system. Should a conviction be secured in criminal court, proof of that may go a long ways toward establishing financial liability in civil court.
